16.Sep.03 // LUSerNet Source Released // bramp
Hello fellow LUSerNet users!

This is the first message I've sent out this school YEAR!! Well technically Lancaster's term hasn't started yet, but it will soon, so I hope everyone is ready :)

Also I would like to say hello to any other users of this app who aren't in Lancaster, but are across the pond in MSU.

This isn't going to be a random rambling, I have a point to this news. However I have a announcement from my sponsors.

www.AlternativeLancaster.com is a new site I’ve just created. It basically lists all the Alternative music events in the area. For example it lists all the clubs and nights out, Like AMS night at the crypt, or Pop Scene, and even The Dark Place… Also it lists all the bands, and events in the area. It’s a great site to educate freshers on the rock scene of Lancaster, especially since they generally only find out about Liquid in the first few months :(

Actually tell a lie, I don’t have any sponsors, I just thought this would be a great way to advertise my site :)

Now the Point
After a year of not improving LUSerNet at all, and feeling its time for me to move on, I'm going to release the source code to everyone! Now what does that mean? That means all the 100s of 1000s of lines I wrote to make LUSerNet will now be given away to you guys, and anyone if they wish may alter this code and release their own version of LUSerNet.

Hopefully the idea is that people will change LUSerNet to add new features, make it more stable, or make it smaller and easier to use.

The bad news is that people can now make a version of LUSerNet that doesn’t share, and can be used to be anti-social to the network. Hopefully this won’t happen, but if it does I would ask that people don’t use the “bad” versions, because if you do then everyone will and eventually no one will be sharing, and the world will come to an end! Don’t forget sharing doesn’t harm you in any way. You are on a local area network and sharing won’t make your internet browsing slower, or your MSN chat delayed because LANs are fast!

The source is located here: LUSerNet.Source.2003.09.16.tar.bz2 and is written completely in VB6, using ADO and the Winsock Control.

If anyone feels they would make a good improvement to LUSerNet, go ahead and send me the new version and I’ll make it the official one and upload it to the site.

A list of things that I would like added: Fixed to the random downloads and searches. The solution is easy, but I was lazy :)

Correct Unicode support - I made some recent changes for a Chinese girl, which were never released publicly which did seem to help international encoding problems, but I’m unsure.

And then whatever else is on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lusernet/message/12

You must note I’m not offering any official support for the source. I may answer the odd email but I can’t guarantee that I will.

So I hope everyone had a good summer holidays, and you are all looking forward to the new year.

13.Nov.02 // v1.20 Multi Network Released // bramp
Hi, Isn't it a fine day today? Rain, Rain and more Rain, but that's what you get for living in Lancaster. Well on this cool and wet night I've decided to finally release v1.20

Do I hear you say WOW, OOH, or other gasping noises?... Well you should, you ask why? Well here are a few reasons why 1.20 is better than previous versions.

A) This version able to run on any network, meaning that all your friends at different universities will be able to use it. You won't be able to share between unis, but each local uni network will be able to share among them self's, which can get very useful.

B) This version is harder and stronger than before. Previously LUSerNet has been know to crash on the Lancs network, in fact there are a few 100 students at the moment that can't even use it due to the efforts of one person being anti-social to his fellow LUSers.

C) Well the bigger the number the better

So firstly to install LUSerNet 1.20 you simply need to remove any old versions (ie with Control Panel's Add/Remove). Download LUSerNet 1.20.msi from either the official site http://LUSerNet.tk or from our Yahoo group. Double click the downloaded file and voila the install begins.

If you are using Windows 95/98 then you may need a MSI update which is available from Microsoft here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=32831
Addition files may be needed if you are using a old version of Windows, these files are listed on our downloads page.

Please note that this software is still and as always in Beta, meaning that it may crash, it hasn't been fully tested by me, but I do try my hardest considering I do this as a hobby :) Also this year I'm not actually on a big network, so its very hard for me to test this, so any feedback I can get helps a lot.

If you have ANY problems just drop me an email to bramp@lusernet.tk

21.Aug.02 // So then I got this idea about driving a cheesecake truck // edd
because at the end of the day I could take some of the leftover cheesecakes home, and I love cheesecake. So I went to the cheesecake company and they asked me if I could drive a truck and I said yes and they said you're hired.

So the next day I got in the truck with all the cheesecakes and I drove about a block and I just had to have a cheesecake. So I pulled over and I opened the trunk and I got a cheesecake and I also took one for later, and I took one for my friend Farmboy, and I took one to bring home and by this time I had eaten one of the cheesecakes. So I tok another one. Then I figured I might as well stop at my house to drop off all the cheesecakes. So I took five cakes to eat on the way and I drive another block and a half to my house.

Now it's lunchtime, so I eat ten cheesecakes and a cheesecake for dessert. I should point out that all of these cheesecakes were very delicious. Anyway, I decided that the only thing to do would be to eat all the rest of the cheesecakes and hide the truck somewhere and leave town.

I miss everybody a lot, but I'm not really sorry, because they were very delicious cheesecakes.

10.Jul.02 // YAY bramp won some of the LUBB Awards // bramp
It turned out last night that I have won a few of the LUBB awards. If you don't know Lubbs is a bullentin board service ran on the unix servers at lancaster, and it consists of *nix type people that have nothing better to do than sit there all day....

Anyway it appears that every year they hold a annual award giving post, where lubbs members vote under certain catagories.. This year I was nominated (for the first time) under Best argument and Most annoying LuBBer. I'm happy to announce that I won both of them YAY...

It would appear that Lubbers don't like file sharing... ah well nevermind everyone is allowed their own opinions, its just that some are just plain wrong.

29.Jun.02 // Bramp is at home now // bramp
Hi, I've returned home to a internet connection which actually allows me to view this site :)

Anyway to inform everyone I will continue to maintain LUSerNet, and try to help people with problems. If you do have any troubles on campus just drop me a email and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Hey while I'm here I might as well say that ISS had fun with my accounts last week... They banned me for using a proxy to access the LUSerNet site... goes to show they are just nazis...

That said I'll end this message now, and I wish everyone has a good summer, and that everyone enjoyed their college's extravs...
